Suggestions for
Technical Agenda
- A. Community Building - An effort to establish
communication among as many members of the worldwide SAS community
as possible. The Web site and the listserver are expected to play
key roles in this.
- A.1 Create a roster of worldwide SAS
practitioners
- A.2 Maintain the existing sa_scat listserver
as a medium for dissemination of relevant information and as a
tool for problem solving within the community.
- A.3 Continue the development of the existing
Worldwide Web site as a focal point for people seeking
information about SAS.
- A.4 Develop alliances with scientific print
media to publicize the commission's activities.
- B. Meetings
- B.1 - Maintain an orderly list of meetings
with sessions of interest to SAS practitioners. This list would
be published on the WWW site.
- B.2 Provide whatever support we can to
international congresses specifically devoted to
SAS.
- B.3 Assist planners of future IUCr Congresses
in planning sessions and activities relating to SAS.
- C. Standardization
- C.1 Compile references relating to use of
standards and direct experimental methods for calibrating
instruments for absolute intensity measurements.
- C.2 Design and coordinate collaborative
research projects to assess the performance of SAS measurement
tools with regard to:
- C.2.a absolute intensity
- C.2.b instrumental resolution
- C.2.c other effects as may be recognized as
contributing to bias in SAS results.
- D. Software Assemble information, possibly
including ftp access, for software codes relating to:
- D.1 Data formats currently in use for the
storage and exchange of SAS data.
- D.2 Data reduction
- D.3 Desmearing in both 1 and 2
dimensions
- D.4 Data visualization
- D.5 Modelling - including fitting and
simulations
- E. Facilities
- E.1 Compile a list of links to SAS activities
at existing laboratories that allow collaboration with
researchers outside their own organizations.
- E.2 Assist in dissemination of information
regarding access to user facilities.
- E.3 Monitor the design and development of SAS
capabilities at new and remodelled user facilities.
- F. Archival publication
- F.1 Explore unresolved issues regarding SAS
notation and nomenclature
- F.2 Assist journal editors who seek guidance
on matters relating to publication of SAS work.
- G. Education
- G.1 Collect a list of references suitable for
use by operators of short courses.
- G.2 Assemble a compendium of textbooks and
review articles for use in self-directed study by people who
need to learn SAS.
- G.3 Encourage and, where possible, support the
development and dissemination of new educational material to
the SAS community.
